Summary: Tony contemplates what he wants to be - Takes place after 8x24 Pyramid

Sequel to kytivafan's story Slaying Dragons

Tony swirled the amber liquid around the glass, watching it capture the light from the TV screen. He had definitely had too much. He glanced down and saw the bottle he had opened hours ago was now more than halfway gone. Putting the glass to his lips he emptied it and sat it down beside the bottle. This was not the way he expected his life to turn out.

All his life, Tony had wanted to slay a dragon. Not literally like a knight in a fairytale. And not in a video game the way McGee did. No, Tony wanted to save the damsel in distress from whatever was after her. Just once he wanted to be with the girl that needed to be saved.

He was always drawn to strong women. Paula, Jeanne, even EJ knew what they wanted from life and took it. They weren’t scared to face danger straight on, and when it came right down to it, they didn’t need him. The other women he dated acted like they needed to be rescued, but once he got to know them he realized there was nothing in their lives that then needed saving from other than boredom.

He wanted a woman who needed him. Someone who was strong enough to know when she couldn’t do it alone. Someone who understood that he needed to save her from her dragons.

But doubt nagged at him. Maybe he wasn’t cut out to be a dragon slayer. Maybe all he was good for was being the squire. The boy who could defend himself but would never be worthy of being more. Maybe all he was good for was being the poo boy and cleaning up everyone’s crap.

When Wendy broke it off with him the day before the wedding his world had caved in. He was alone just the way his father was. Except instead of dying slowly from depression and alcohol, Wendy had walked away whole and healthy. She had been stronger then he was and knew he would never be able to give her what he needed.

He picked up the bottle and glanced at the glass. Instead of refilling the glass he took a deep drink straight from the bottle. He wanted to slay the dragon - but there was only one dragon that he knew of that he wanted to slay. The one dragon that had caused hurt and heartbreak to the people he loved the most. And he wasn’t sure the daughter of the dragon would appreciate his help.

Setting the bottle down on the table he stood and turned off the TV. Staggering down the hall he fell into his bed still fully dressed. His final thought before falling asleep was the daughter of the dragon, and the slaying he would do to win her heart.

Oh, this is so sad! I wasn't expecting that. Eli David as the Dragon...nice imagery!

But, surely you're not going to leave it there...are you?

I may need to think it over with kytivafan and see ...

Well done.

wow, this fits perfectly with my story - I love the symmetry between the two -

these two need each other - I wish they would wake up and see it.

I don't know if it needs a better ending like proseac1 wants ... or if it needs to stop where it is.

Though, I have a bunny nibbling ...

On one hand, I would like to see where they go from here - do they wake up and it's business as usual? does one make a side comment about dragons that catches the other's attention?

on the other hand - if we end it here - it stays pretty much in canon -

I would like for Ziva to catch up to Tony - at least he KNOWS that it's Ziva he wants, she hasn't come to the realization that Tony is the one for her - she can't see beyond the shadow of the dragon - that might be interesting to explore....

what do you think?
